Terms of service.

These terms cover your use of Tomato, a free web browser for the Mac. By using Tomato you agree to them. Last updated 1 October 2026.

Tomato is a beta

Tomato is unfinished. Some features may not work, may change, or may be taken away.

Security fixes are best effort. Chromium security fixes reach Tomato only after the framework it is built on ships them, so they can arrive later than in Chrome or Safari. Keep another browser for anything that matters most to you, such as banking.

Tomato is free

Tomato costs nothing. It has no paid plan, no adverts and nothing to buy inside it.

If you choose Claude or ChatGPT, you use your own key, and Anthropic or OpenAI may charge you under their own terms. Tomato is not part of that agreement and never sees what they charge.

No warranty

Tomato is provided as it is, without any warranty. As far as the law allows, the developer is not responsible for any loss or damage that comes from using it, including lost data, lost work, or anything the assistant or agent does. Keep copies of anything important.

The assistant and the agent

  • The assistant can be wrong. Check anything important before you rely on it.
  • You are responsible for what you ask the agent to do and for what you approve. Read each question before you answer it.
  • The agent asks before it acts on a site where you are signed in. It always shows you what it will do before it signs in, pays, sends, deletes or posts.
  • The agent cannot open files on your Mac or run programs.
  • Use the agent only on sites and accounts you are allowed to use, and follow those sites' own rules.

Using Tomato

  • Use Tomato within the law.
  • Do not try to break or get around Tomato's safety checks, or use Tomato to harm other people or their computers.
  • Websites you visit and services you connect, such as Google, Apple, Anthropic and OpenAI, have their own terms. Those terms cover what you do there.

Your account

An account is optional. If you make one, keep your email account secure, and contact the developer if you think someone else has used yours. You can delete your account at any time from Account.

Open source parts

Tomato is built on Chromium through the Chromium Embedded Framework, and uses other open source software. Each part keeps its own licence.

Updates

Tomato checks for updates once a day and asks you before it installs one. It refuses an update that is not signed by the same key as the copy you have.

Stopping

You can stop using Tomato at any time. Delete your data in My data, delete your account in Account, then move Tomato to the Bin. The developer may end the beta or stop offering Tomato.

Messages between people

Messages you send another person in Tomato are encrypted on your Mac and can only be read by the

people you send them to. Tomato cannot read them, and the server holds them only until they are

delivered. You can block a sender in Tomato at any time, which refuses everything they send.

Because Tomato cannot read messages, it cannot moderate them. If someone is using Tomato to harm

you, block them and write to tomato@v-ai.org.

Copyright

Tomato hosts no public content and cannot read the messages people send each other. If you believe

something in Tomato infringes your copyright, write to tomato@v-ai.org with enough detail to

identify the work and where it appears, and it will be looked into.

Changes to these terms

When these terms change, the new version comes with the next Tomato update and appears on the website, with a new date at the top. If you keep using Tomato after a change, you accept the new terms.
